How much raw feed should I give my dog?
Generally speaking, 2.5% -3.5% of your dogs body weight per day is recommended, depending on your dogs activities. However, each dog is different and nutritional needs will vary based on age, activity level and overall health. All blends come in 1/2lb pucks for easy feed distribution. Dogs require 1 puck for every 15-25lbs of body weight, per day. Older, less active dogs may require less while growing puppies and active dogs may require more. It is recommended to consult with your veterinarian for an exact portion.
For Puppies
Puppies grow astonishingly fast so it’s essential that you weigh them daily or at least weekly:
- For the first three months they should eat upto 10% of their body weight daily across three meals a day.
- From 3 – 6 months slowly reduce to 5% a day and this should be across two meals a day.
How should I prepare raw feed before giving it to my dog?
We recommend moving a portion of the frozen feed into a sealed container and put it in the refrigerator in the evening. It is ready for feeding the next day. As the feed thaws it usually turns into a thick stew. **Please Note – take extra care to keep the dog food away from human food and thoroughly wash your hands after touching it**
Where do you deliver?
We current delivery on Tuesdays to the Norfolk area if the order of 40lbs or more are ordered by 12:00pm Friday. While we certainly always try our best to get late orders out for delivery, unfortunately it’s just not possible to guarantee these orders. Please email contact@therawdogfoodcompany.ca for any questions or inquiries!
How is the feed portioned in the boxes?
We sell our feed in 20lb boxes, with portions being divided into frozen pucks. Each puck is approximately 1/2 of a pound in size. Sometimes a 20lb clear plastic bag of feed is prefered. Bulk orders are sold in 40 or 50lbs mesh bags.
What if I’d like to pick up my order, can I do that?
We do not offer store front pick up at this time. We can pre-arrange an emergency order at a determined pick up point. We will do everything we can to accommodate your pick up. Please check back for more updates as the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions are constantly redeveloping.
What is your return policy?
We are 100% behind our product. We understand that your dog may not always want our feed. If for any reason you’re not satisfied with the raw food, please drop us a line for assistance! For sealed, unopened packages, we can offer a product replacement, or full refund. For hygienic reasons we can’t accept opened or half consumed products, but we will always sort out these issues, just contact us!
Is your mix a complete diet?
We believe that our mix is a complete diet, however, many customers report adding more to it. People add such things as dry dog food, grain, vegetables or fruit and supplements.
Why does the moisture content change?
The moisture content of the ingredients we buy varies quite a bit. If the ingredients have less moisture, the feed will be drier. If the ingredients have extra moisture, we have no way to remove it.
Should I drain off the bloody moisture?
No! The blood and moisture are part of the food. Your dog should have all of it.
Where does the food come from?
We source all our ingredients from Canadian slaughter facilities or processing plants. Anything not required for human consumption is sent out of these facilities to become animal food.
Does Raw Feed have an odour?
Raw food does have an odour and can change from time to time.
Should I cook it?
No. We believe your dog will get the best possible nutrition from the feed just as it is.
How long will it keep?
As long as our feed is kept frozen at -20C or below, we believe its nutritional value remains unchanged. We recommend that customers buy no more than 30 days supply at a time.
